Happy Thanksgiving

Well, here we are once again in the holiday season. I am going to my Mom's house for Thanksgiving. It is mandatory. I don't mind though. I will see my brother and sisters along with my favorite aunt. My Mom is a great cook. I will visit with them for a while and then go to Dallas and spend the night with my BFF since I was 12 yrs. old,Connie. She is going to Mom's house with me actually. I plan on doing a little shopping in Dallas on Friday then coming back home on Saturday. I may or may not stop and visit my friend who lives on the way back ,Nancy. She is the nurse friend of mine who raises weenie dogs. I got Dooley from her. I am leaving Dooley home becuse my cousin is not leaving town. She is spending it with friends. The weather here is nice crisp and cool in the mornings and evenings and perfect in the 70's during the days. I am still the road nurse and having a great time. I met a publishe author today. She was very interesting to talk to.
My sister,Anna has been having troubles. She has been having numbness and tingling in her extremities and has been worked up for a hundred different things. At this point, she has idiopathic transverse myelitis which is a fancy word for we do not know what is causing it. It is not M.S. but they are working it up for this as well. She has been on a treatment of steroids and afterwards will go on interfuron which is what they use for M.S. I am scared for her. Hopefully, she will get over al this but it really sounds as if she could be saddled with it for life!

I Believe in a Better WAY!!!!

Yea! I am so stoked! I was elated to watch our country finally wake up and do the right thing for a change! I am so hopeful for our future. And I haven't been hopeful since 9/11. I love love love President Obama. He will be the best president since FDR! As many of you know I am a home health nurse. My patients are almost exclusively Medicare recipients. I had to laugh at my little old people who of course, all voted Republican straight ticket. They all were so sure that Obama stood for socialism. They were all against socialism in any form or fashion. I would periodically just for grins ask them what the defining point of Obama's plan disturbed them the most and almost every time they would say because he wants to socialize insurance. Now, I laugh because Medicare is a federally funded program so that means that every one of them is already on socialized insurance and have been since the 1960's when Medicare was started. And guess what people, it works. Yes, it surely does. And hopefully, one day when you get old enough you too will reap the benefits of socialized medical care. Of course, that is if any of you manage to make it till your ''golden years''. We all pay into it and therefore we are all eligible to use it. Now, think about it for a minute. Who would you rather have in charge of securing your insurance benefits? Your employer...or you representatives picked by you for service in the government? I mean, what does your employer care about? The bottom line that's what. Which insurance plan is the cheapest? Hell, they could care less which one is the best for you. Do not think for one minute they do. But, if government were in charge they would make sure you were seen before a problem arises. Getting regular check ups because you can makes a lot more sense than just dealing with your illness until you cannot anymore and then winding up in the E.R. with unfamiliar faces and again people who are dealing with the bottom line. Indigent patients are a drain ion the hospital system. I want my medical insurance benefits before I am too old to matter. So, I am an Obama Mama!
This is what I have prayed for since I was a little girl sitting in the front of the television listening to the likes of Rev. Martin Luther King tell us about his dream and that dream became my dream too. Not that we would one day have an African-American president but that one day we would cease to recognize color and like beyond it to the man who could lead this country the best. I know, I know, some of you will say that a lot of people did vote for him because he is black and hey, I am sure they did. Some people voted for McCain because he wasn't black! I am not saying there are not still racist in this country both black and white. What I am saying is that finally those of us who have known forever that the color of one's skin does not make the mark of that person. It is how they live their life. How they help others who are in need. How they love. Love is not an emotion it is indeed an ability. Can you love? It is harder than you think.Altruism is a hard thing to achieve. Look at all the people in this country who are unloved. You see them every day. They stand on the street corners with their hands outstretched asking for you to just acknowledge they they exist. Do you think anyone looks at them at the end of the day and says I love you? I think not my friends, I think not. And this makes me so sad. DO this one thing for me the next time you see one of them. Just look them in the face and smile. Give them that if you don't want to give them money. It won't cost you a thing and it will do wonders for that person. It will make him or her feel like she is worthy of love even if she isn't getting it. There but for the grace of God go I! Look at it this way, you could give them a dollar just for reminding you that you are who and where you are. Truly blessed and loved!
